There were no funds, no vehicles, no books, no human resources, no office and no strategy.\u00a0 There was only one man with a vision from the Lord.\u00a0 With the permission of the then Bishop and some church leaders, AVM was launched with no fanfare or opening ceremony.\u00a0 It was a step of faith and everything was &#8216;played by ear&#8217;.\u00a0 The Lord called, equipped and supplied.<\/span><\/span><\/p><h3><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">TRIALS<\/span><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">AVM has gone through great difficulties.\u00a0 Initially, many misunderstood its purpose and intentions.\u00a0 Dangers and threats were experienced over the years.\u00a0 In one particular case, a man was wielding his &#8216;parang&#8217; and challenging us because he did not want Christianity or Christian help.\u00a0 On other occasions, AVM workers have had to go through difficult terrains in crossing mountaneous and jungle trails to reach the Orang Asal (natives).<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">There was another occasion when one of our workers met with an accident when his van knocked into\u00a0 a cow.\u00a0 The cow was not hurt but his van was badly damaged.\u00a0 In another incident, some villagers were very upset and hurled foul words and accusations upon our workers apparently for &#8220;brainwashing their children with filthy and evil influences.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #c71585;\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/anglicanwestmalaysia.org.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AVM23.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-236 size-medium\" villagers<br \/><\/span><\/em><\/strong><br \/>However, in many cases, our workers were given\u00a0respect\u00a0and praise for doing good work in the villages.\u00a0 Our workers have many roles to fulfill.\u00a0 They act as social workers, evangelists, pastors, match-makers, medical assistants, legal and career advisors, etc.\u00a0\u00a0Not many villagers have vans and those who have, are\u00a0 reluctant to help.\u00a0 But our vehicles are always available to the villagers.\u00a0 In most cases, we act as free ambulance service for the sick and ferry them to the hospitals or clinics.\u00a0 Sometimes, our workers have to help the villagers to get legal\u00a0aid to address their legal matters.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Our workers are outright pastors in their own right acting as counsellors, spiritual directors, shepherds, teachers, prophets and leaders.\u00a0 There were a few cases where the villagers wanted to marry off their sons or daughters to our evangelists!<\/span><\/p><h3><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>JOY<\/strong><\/span><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">AVM has in its own right come of age when it can organise itself in outreach and evangelism.\u00a0 Though it still needs financial help from outside quarters, the other ministries are carried out by locals.\u00a0 We hope that in the very near future, it can be self-supportive.\u00a0 We are now able to build churches and buy buildings for their use.\u00a0 This will lessen their burden of rental.\u00a0 At the same time, we are helping them to set up\u00a0home businesses and create self-employment opportunities to increase their income.\u00a0 We have come a long way.\u00a0 We are able to see some light at the end of the tunnel.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Over the last ten years, AVM has helped hundreds of villagers come to know Christ, taught hundreds in Bible knowledge and English tuition and ministered to many in their physical, financial and spiritual needs.\u00a0 Three Chinese village churches, seven Asli churches and 1 Tamil church have been established.\u00a0 There are many more house churches, tuition and kindergarten centres throughout the whole of the Southern Perak area.<\/span><\/p><h3><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><em><strong><span style=\"color: #c71585;\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/anglicanwestmalaysia.org.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Baptism.bmp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-238\" src=\"https:\/\/anglicanwestmalaysia.org.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Baptism.bmp\" alt=\"\" width=\"196\" height=\"138\" \/><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/anglicanwestmalaysia.org.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/worshipping.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-237 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/anglicanwestmalaysia.org.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/worshipping.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"216\" height=\"138\" \/><\/a><br \/>Baptism in the interior mission field and villagers worshiping\u00a0&amp; praising the Lord<\/span><br \/><\/strong><\/em><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong style=\"font-size: small;\">ASLI MISSION <\/strong><\/span><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Asli mission began in 1995 with a group of twelve Asli leaders meeting the Rev. Ng Moon Hing and Dr. Teoh Soong Kee to\u00a0seek assistance in their Christian growth.\u00a0 There were already Christians but they had no shepherd to teach and guide them.\u00a0 After some discussions, AVM began ministry with them.\u00a0 In 1996, St. Peter&#8217;s Church Ipoh took some interest and adopted this ministry.\u00a0 The first step St. Peter&#8217;s Church took was the setting up of Gereja Shalom in Gopeng.\u00a0 She acts as the mission centre for Asli ministry.\u00a0 Since then, a number of chapels were built in the kampungs,\u00a0namely, Sinju, Air Denak, Pawong, Pengkalan Daun, Ulu Groh, Ulu Kampar, and the latest, Sg. Raya.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Since 2004, Pengkalan Daun was given to St. Luke&#8217;s Church, Teluk Intan, and Dusun 100 and Bidor Camp were given to Emmanuel Church, Tapah.\u00a0 Since these areas are nearer to these churches,\u00a0it is rightful to seek their spiritual coverage.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Rev. Japalus Odong came to us in 1997 as an evangelist.\u00a0 In 2000, St. Peter&#8217;s Church sent him back to Sabah Theological Seminary for upgrading and he graduated with a B Th.\u00a0 In 2001, he was ordained Deacon and then Priest in 2002.\u00a0 There are another 5 full-time evangelists and 4 part-time evangelists serving in the Asli mission.\u00a0 Julih Bah Aew was the first Asli to receive a B Th.\u00a0 Two more are presently pursuing the B. Th in the Penang Baptist Seminary.\u00a0 A dozen are being prepared for Certificate and Diploma courses.\u00a0 The Asli mission covers 20 kampungs, namely, Sinju, Gerawat, Sg. Raya, Ulu Groh, Ulu Kampar, Kepayang, Jelintuh, Air Denak, Pengkalan Daun, Dusun 100, Bidor Camp, Chemor, Sg. Siput, Keramat Pulai, Batu Berangkai, Sg. Geruyung, Sejam, Paku and Ulu Gerumtum.\u00a0 Apart from evangelism, there are other ministries, such as kindergartens, tuition classes, sewing classes, economic shops, goat rearing, fish-rearing, padi-planting, sundry shops, medical screening, dental care, craft work, etc.<\/span><\/p><h3><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #c71585;\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/anglicanwestmalaysia.org.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AVM16.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-232 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/anglicanwestmalaysia.org.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AVM16-300x191.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"191\" srcset=\"https:\/\/anglicanwestmalaysia.org.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AVM16-300x191.jpg 300w, https:\/\/anglicanwestmalaysia.org.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AVM16-768x489.jpg 768w, https:\/\/anglicanwestmalaysia.org.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AVM16-1024x652.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/anglicanwestmalaysia.org.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AVM16-700x446.jpg 700w, https:\/\/anglicanwestmalaysia.org.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AVM16.jpg 1734w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/anglicanwestmalaysia.org.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ducks.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-231 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/anglicanwestmalaysia.org.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ducks.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"191\" \/><\/a><br \/>Helping\u00a0the natives\u00a0to be self-supportive &#8211; the goat\u00a0farm and duck farm<br \/><\/span><\/em><\/strong><br \/><strong>CHINESE VILLAGE MISSION<\/strong><\/span><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The Chinese villages are larger in size.\u00a0 Within 10 years, we are able to plant 3 churches, namely, Gereja Shekinah in Mambang di-Awan.\u00a0 Gereja Agape in Air Kuning and Gereja Charis in Cold Stream.\u00a0 There are also other villages where only house meetings are held.\u00a0 These place are Tronoh Mines, Temoh, Kampar, Kuala Bikam and Bidor Station.\u00a0 We have stopped in some other villages due to various factors and reasons.<\/span><\/p><p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In 1996, a house was bought in\u00a0Mambang DiAwan and within three years, the church Gereja Shekinah was full-packed with an average of 60 worshippers weekly.\u00a0 In 2001, another church, Gereja Agape was established.\u00a0 In 2003, a permanent place was purchased and converted into a church.\u00a0 In late 2003, another church Gereja Charis in Cold Stream was established.\u00a0 This church too has a permanent church building and she now belongs to St. Andrew&#8217;s Parish Bidor because of its close proximity.\u00a0 Our aim is to\u00a0continue to reach out and establish churches in different villages.\u00a0 We hope to see them becoming parishes one day in the near future.\u00a0 Their greatest weakness as local leadership for many\u00a0have left the villages for bigger cities to earn a\u00a0living or further studies.\u00a0 We are planning for a cluster of villages to group together and form a parish.\u00a0 There are lots of childen, young and elderly people to minister to.<br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p><h3 align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>INDIAN VILLAGE MISSION <\/strong><\/span><\/h3><p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Kg.
